Fire Erupts at Seaside Hotel, Prompting Evacuation of Over 200 Guests
Emergency services responded to a blaze at the Grand Burstin Hotel in Folkestone early Tuesday, with no injuries reported.
More than 200 people were evacuated from the Grand Burstin Hotel in Folkestone after a fire broke out overnight.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service dispatched 26 fire engines to the seaside hotel shortly after 1:00 AM BST on Tuesday. By 8:30 AM, 10 fire engines remained on the scene to address remaining hotspots. The fire is believed to have originated in the building's basement, though the cause is not yet known. No injuries related to the fire have been reported.
The Folkestone and Hythe District Council established a welfare center at the Three Hills Sports Park and advised nearby residents to keep windows and doors closed and avoid the area.
A spokesperson for Britannia Hotels Group, which operates the Grand Burstin, stated that the company is taking immediate action to ensure the safety and well-being of guests and staff, and is fully cooperating with authorities.
