Fifteen people were hospitalized on Thursday afternoon after experiencing breathing difficulties due to a suspected chemical leak at Moorways Sports Village in Allenton, Derbyshire.
Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 1:38 p.m. following reports of a potential chemical leak, which is understood to have involved chlorine. The East Midlands Ambulance Service dispatched multiple ambulances and a Hazardous Area Response Team, ultimately transporting 15 patients to Royal Derby Hospital.
The leisure center was evacuated as a precautionary measure while emergency services, including firefighters and a specialist environmental unit, assessed the situation. Some individuals reported symptoms such as dry throats and coughing.
Osmaston Park Road was closed near the junction with Moor Lane, and residents were advised to avoid the area. Moorways Sports Village announced its temporary closure for the remainder of the day, canceling all swimming lessons, water park visits, and other bookings.
