FIFA has opened an investigation into allegations of racism against popular YouTuber IShowSpeed during recent World Cup matches. The streamer, whose real name is Darren Jason Watkins Jr., has been livestreaming games from the tournament.

During a broadcast of the Round of 32 match between Argentina and Cape Verde on July 3 in Miami, IShowSpeed, wearing a Cape Verde jersey, was seen in an altercation with an Argentina fan. In the footage, the fan appeared to tell IShowSpeed, who is Black, to "go cry to the zoo." FIFA stated that it "strongly condemns racism, hate and discrimination in all forms" and that "these actions have no place in football, at the FIFA World Cup, or anywhere in society."

Further allegations suggest IShowSpeed faced abuse during Argentina's Round of 16 match. Clips circulating on social media show fans shouting at the streamer and one appearing to make monkey gestures. This incident allegedly followed IShowSpeed taunting Lionel Messi as the Argentine player prepared to take a penalty. A viral clip showed IShowSpeed, wearing an Egypt shirt behind the goal, screaming at Messi and waving his arms, moments before Messi missed the penalty.

IShowSpeed is a prominent online content creator with a substantial following across platforms like YouTube and TikTok. His channel has featured appearances from notable figures in the soccer world, including FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Zlatan Ibrahimović.

The investigation into IShowSpeed follows a separate controversy involving Paraguayan Senator Celeste Amarilla. Amarilla made public racist remarks about France star Kylian Mbappé, describing him in a derogatory manner and questioning his French identity. Mbappé responded to the senator's comments, calling her "despicable" and "unworthy of her position." The French Football Federation and French President Emmanuel Macron also condemned Amarilla's remarks. Amarilla later expressed regret for repeating patterns she detests but accused Mbappé of "political violence against a woman" and criticized his on-field behavior.
