Fiat Unveils Multiplay Concept: A Versatile Six-Seater That Transforms into a Pick-Up
Fiat's new concept vehicle, the Multiplay, offers a modular design that can adapt from a family car to a utility pick-up truck.
Fiat has introduced its Multiplay concept, a versatile six-seat vehicle designed to adapt to various needs, capable of transforming into a four-seat pick-up truck. The 4.45-meter-long concept aims to combine the efficiency of an MPV, the character of an SUV, and the utility of a pick-up.
Morphing Capability
The Multiplay's transformation is facilitated by its 'Metamorfosi' C-pillar system. This rear module can slide longitudinally, allowing the enclosed family vehicle to convert into an open-bed pick-up in a few simple movements. In its family configuration, the vehicle can accommodate six passengers plus an additional 'Petsenger seat'. When shifted to its pick-up mode, it seats four and features an open bed suitable for carrying sports equipment or bicycles.
Furthermore, the rear spoiler is designed to rotate and function as an integrated bike rack capable of holding two bicycles when the vehicle is in its pick-up configuration, enhancing its cargo capacity when needed.
Design Inspiration
Fiat states that the Multiplay concept draws inspiration from its heritage, referencing models like the 1956 Fiat 600 Multipla and the 1998 Multipla. These earlier models were notable for redefining the relationship between exterior dimensions and interior space, with the 600 Multipla seating six in approximately 3.5 meters and the 1998 Multipla accommodating six people in under four meters.
The Multiplay is presented as a "laboratory of solutions for tomorrow's mobility" and is not intended as a preview of a specific production model. The concept is scheduled to be displayed to the public at the Paris Motor Show, beginning October 12.
