Annelyse Oatway, fiancée of Matt Poole, has addressed backlash received after stating she cares for her partner's daughter, Posy, "most of the time." Oatway, 31, explained in an exclusive interview that her comments were taken out of context and were never intended as a criticism of Posy's mother, influencer Tammy Hembrow.
Oatway stated her remarks were a response to a social media user questioning her tribute to Posy on her birthday. She clarified that she has played a significant caregiving role in Posy's life since the child was 18 months old, which is why she feels comfortable celebrating her birthday and expressing her affection.
"The comment wasn't intended as criticism of Tammy in any way," Oatway said. "My response was simply explaining that I've played a significant caregiving role in Posy's life since she was 18 months old, which is why I feel comfortable celebrating her birthday and expressing my love for her."
She further explained that both Hembrow and Poole have demanding careers that require frequent travel or long hours. This often results in Oatway taking on a substantial portion of Posy's day-to-day care.
"Tammy's career often requires interstate or overseas travel commitments, while Matt works multiple jobs and is frequently out the door before 4 a.m.," Oatway noted. "As a result, a lot of the day-to-day care naturally falls to me. That wasn't a criticism of either parent. It was simply context in response to someone questioning my role in Posy's life."
The birthday tribute in question featured photos of Oatway spending time with Posy, including cuddles, beach outings, and playful moments at home. Oatway and Poole, who welcomed their son Rocky in 2024, announced their engagement earlier this year.
Poole and Hembrow, who share Posy, ended their relationship in late 2023. Hembrow has since married Love Island Australia star Matt Zukowski, though the couple announced their separation earlier this year. Hembrow was approached for comment.
