Fernandes Criticizes Carrick's Tactics After Manchester United's Humiliating Loss

Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes has openly criticized head coach Michael Carrick's tactics following a decisive 4-1 Champions League defeat against Como, a result described as one of the most humiliating nights in the club's European history.

Following the match, Carrick faced questions regarding his future and offered an apology to the approximately 700 traveling supporters. He was observed walking across the pitch to acknowledge the fans, holding his hands up in a gesture reminiscent of a previous incident involving former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Fernandes, known for his deep understanding of the game, spoke to TNT Sports about the team's performance. "It's a decision from the staff to not press man to man and sometimes leave space behind and try to get the ball, but sometimes when you give space to these teams they get confidence," he stated. When asked directly if Carrick's tactics were incorrect, Fernandes deferred, saying, "That's on the manager and staff to see, not me. Sometimes you have to be more brave under pressure, take the risk of pressing high and making them uncomfortable."

In response to Fernandes' comments during his post-match press conference, Carrick offered a concise reply: "There's a little bit of whatever system you play, whatever tactics you play, if you don't run, and you don't run forward, and you don't run back, you aren't going to win." He declined to discuss his own position with the club.

Carrick focused on the team's performance and his responsibility, stating, "I have to apologise to the supporters. I care about this football club as much as anyone, not more, with the position that I'm in and what I value this football club. For us to play in that way is not acceptable." He added that his gesture to the fans was an acknowledgement of their support and a reflection of his shared feelings about the team's play. "We might win, we might lose, but the way we went about it tonight wasn't acceptable. I just wanted to let the fans know that I feel for them."
