Lewis Ferguson has stated that there was no concrete progress on a summer transfer away from Bologna to his boyhood club, Rangers. Despite reports linking him with a move, Ferguson clarified that "nothing was ever that close."
Ferguson, who is currently under contract with Bologna until 2028 with an additional year option, has been a consistent starter, playing every minute of the team's five Serie A matches this season. He acknowledged his strong familial ties to Rangers, as both his father, Derek, and uncle, Barry, previously played for the Glasgow club, with Barry also serving as captain and manager.
"It's no secret that I grew up a fan and my family is involved in the club," Ferguson said. "It was a dream of mine as a kid and that's not changed but I don't want to speak about that while I'm a player at Bologna. In the future, you never know. It might happen, it might not, but it's always been something in the back of mind."
In July, Rangers manager Derek McInnes, who previously worked with Ferguson at Aberdeen, had spoken of an "obvious link" between the player and the club, indicating potential interest. However, Ferguson's current focus remains with his Italian club, Bologna, while keeping the door open for a future return to Ibrox.
