Federal authorities have dismantled an alleged firearms trafficking ring accused of funneling dozens of guns from Georgia to Chicago street gangs. Prosecutors stated that some of these weapons have been linked to a juvenile murder and other violent incidents.

Five individuals have been charged in a 23-count federal indictment that was unsealed in the Middle District of Georgia. The charges stem from an investigation led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) as part of a Homeland Security Task Force.

According to court documents, Anthony Edmond and Rafael Enriquez face the most serious charges, including conspiracy involving firearms trafficking, machine guns, and drug trafficking. Both could face a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted. Three other defendants are also facing federal firearms conspiracy charges.

Prosecutors allege that Edmond, identified as a member of the Chicago-based Black Disciples gang and an associate of the Conservative Vice Lords, was directed to conduct straw purchases of firearms from Georgia gun stores. These weapons were allegedly transported to the Chicago area and distributed to gang members.

Edmond is accused of purchasing at least 22 firearms from Georgia gun stores between 2020 and 2021, acquiring more than two dozen weapons within a 10-month period. Some of these firearms were allegedly converted into fully automatic weapons and subsequently used in multiple violent crimes.

Prosecutors also claim that Edmond purchased ammunition and extended and drum magazines. He is accused of test-firing firearms before transferring them and making multiple trips from Georgia to Illinois to deliver the weapons to gang members in Chicago.

Authorities reported recovering 20 firearms allegedly purchased by Edmond across three states between 2021 and 2026. In 2021, the Chicago Police Department recovered a Glock pistol from the bedroom of a known juvenile gang member. Forensic testing later linked this firearm to three separate violent crimes, including a 2021 Chicago murder and the shooting of a rival gang member. Investigators stated that Edmond purchased this specific firearm in Georgia just 36 days prior to its alleged use in the homicide.
