A FedEx driver was terminated from his position after a Ring doorbell camera recorded him using a racist slur while attempting a delivery in Kansas. The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon outside the West Plaza office of real estate broker Shawnna Murrell.
Murrell, who had just returned from a planning commission meeting, reviewed a notification from her doorbell camera and discovered the driver's offensive language. The uniformed driver was heard on the recording asking, "What the fk is this n***'s number?"
Initially, Murrell questioned if she had misheard the remark. However, upon checking the package, she confirmed it was addressed to her business, indicating the slur was directed at her office. Murrell later shared the video online, which quickly gained traction.
Following the video's online circulation, FedEx management was alerted. According to Murrell, a local FedEx manager contacted her to apologize after recognizing the driver. Later that day, corporate officials from FedEx also reached out to apologize and confirmed the driver's employment had been terminated.
In a statement, a FedEx spokesperson stated that the driver's behavior was "unacceptable and inconsistent with our company values." Murrell expressed hope that the former employee would reflect on the impact of his words and the reasons behind his actions.
Murrell stated she shared the video to raise awareness that such encounters can occur unexpectedly. "Words have weight!" she said.
