Federal investigators uncovered evidence that Rep. Ilhan Omar entered into a sham marriage with a man believed to be her brother during a 2016 probe, according to a report.

The investigation, conducted by the FBI and Department of Homeland Security, stalled after prosecutors determined that any potential offenses occurred outside the five-year statute of limitations, the New York Post reported.

The probe into Omar's marriage to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi was first reported by The New York Times and confirmed by The Post. A source familiar with the investigation claimed that the "Biden US Attorney in Minnesota shut it down" shortly after taking office in 2021.

Details regarding the specific evidence uncovered about Omar's marriage to Elmi were not immediately clear. Omar, who was campaigning for a seat in the Minnesota legislature when the probe began, has previously dismissed allegations that she married her brother to help him obtain a green card as a racist conspiracy theory promoted by the far-right.

Earlier in October, federal agents executed a search warrant at the Washington, D.C. home shared by Omar and her current husband, Tim Mynett. Items seized included Omar's cellphone, notebooks, personal computers, and passport. Sources told The Post that investigators are examining whether Omar was involved in a family conspiracy to commit immigration fraud, which could potentially lead to her denaturalization and deportation.
