Federal Agents Shoot, Wound Individual in New York City

Federal law enforcement agents shot and wounded an individual in New York City on Thursday afternoon, the New York Police Department announced.

The individual who was shot is conscious and receiving medical attention at a hospital, according to a social media post from the NYPD. The department stated that its officers were not involved in the incident and did not witness the shooting.

Details regarding the circumstances of the shooting, which occurred around 4 p.m. in the Marble Hill neighborhood of Manhattan, remain limited. An FBI spokesperson confirmed that an evidence response team was dispatched to the scene to assist Department of Homeland Security partners, but provided no further information.

Pedro Almaraz, an employee at a nearby restaurant, reported hearing approximately three to four gunshots. He observed a man on the ground surrounded by officers wearing face masks and vests marked with Department of Homeland Security insignia, while witnesses shouted.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul stated she had been briefed on the incident and called for federal authorities to provide a "full and transparent accounting of the circumstances surrounding this incident."
