Fearne Cotton has shared a cryptic message about 'getting revenge on people' and discussed 'resentment' on social media. The presenter, 45, separated from her husband, Jesse Wood, son of Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood, in 2024. The couple married in 2014.
Cotton took to Instagram to offer advice on the 'best way to get revenge,' drawing from her experiences dealing with injustice in her early thirties. She stated, "Every one of us has lost sleep, or days/weeks/years feeling angry or f***ed over by someone. Most of us will have dealt with injustice." She added that for those who have sought to disrupt one's joy, the response is to "shine as brightly as you possibly can and live as boldly as humanly possible."
Speaking on her podcast, "Happy Place," Cotton also opened up about how resentment had impacted her, leading to burnout and illness. She emphasized the necessity of establishing boundaries, saying, "You need to leave room for your needs. I got so resentful, and you want to be there for friends and family but with boundaries in place."
Cotton described her resentment as becoming so intense that it made her physically ill, with symptoms including tense muscles and jaw clenching. She reflected on societal expectations for women to be perpetual nurturers, stating, "We are to be the nurturers, the people that give and give and give give and we have this endless supply of ourselves to give other people in all manners, but that's not true. We need to keep something back for ourselves."
She warned that failing to implement boundaries can lead to burnout. "I'm speaking from a place of experience and what I do now is answer honestly. It doesn't mean you're a selfish person, it's not a one way street. You will p*** some people off and that is alright," she stated.
Cotton reverted her name from 'Mrs Fearne Wood' to 'Ms Fearne Cotton' after Jesse Wood's new girlfriend, Gemma Gregory, announced her pregnancy. Jesse Wood welcomed a son, Indigo Robin Charles Wood, in August with Gregory. He also has an 11-year-old son from a previous relationship. Fearne and Jesse share two children, Rex, 13, and Honey, nine. Jesse also has two children, Lola and Arthur, from his first marriage.
In August, Cotton also revealed that she had experienced 'crippling anxiety' that made her fearful of work and led her to live like a hermit. She described a period of constant panic attacks that debilitated her, affecting her ability to drive and perform television work. However, she noted that she is now "the happiest I've ever been," attributing her recovery partly to a therapist who helped her understand her struggles with anger.
