FBI agents reportedly confronted former U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell at San Francisco International Airport and seized his cellphone and other electronics as part of a federal criminal probe into sexual misconduct allegations. The search warrant was served on Saturday after Swalwell arrived in California, according to the Daily Mail.
Sources told the outlet that agents also executed additional warrants at Swalwell’s Washington, D.C. home on Sunday, where they reportedly collected further evidence. The 45-year-old former congressman was reportedly cooperative during the airport encounter.
This investigation emerges as Swalwell faces multiple accusations of sexual misconduct. One former staffer has alleged that he raped her twice when she was too intoxicated to consent. Following public accusations from four women, Swalwell, who was considered a frontrunner at the time, ended his campaign for governor of California.
The FBI and Swalwell have not yet commented on the report.
