FBI Raids California Home Tied to Former Congressman Eric Swalwell Investigation
The search is reportedly connected to an ongoing investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against the former congressman.
FBI officers conducted a raid on a California home in connection with an investigation involving former U.S. Congressman Eric Swalwell, according to U.S. media reports. The 45-year-old Democrat withdrew from California's gubernatorial race earlier this year and resigned his seat in the House of Representatives following allegations of sexual misconduct during his time in office.
In August, the FBI reportedly stopped Swalwell at an airport, seized his electronic devices, and searched his Washington D.C. home as part of the same investigation. Swalwell has consistently denied any wrongdoing, with his attorney characterizing the accusations as "fabricated."
"These accusations are false, fabricated, and deeply offensive – a calculated and transparent political hit job," Swalwell's attorney, Sara Azari, stated around the time the allegations first surfaced. The BBC has reached out to Swalwell's lawyer and the Department of Justice for comment.
Swalwell has faced allegations from multiple women, including claims that he raped a victim who was too intoxicated to consent and that he sent unsolicited nude photographs to women.
