FBI Officials Accused of Operating 'Shadow Government' to Suppress Hunter Biden Laptop Story

Two high-ranking FBI officials, Nikki Floris and Bradley Benavides, are reportedly facing charges of perjury before Congress for their alleged actions in concealing the FBI's awareness of the Hunter Biden laptop story before the 2020 presidential election. The officials are accused of abusing their positions and the FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force to help suppress reporting on the laptop's contents.

According to an affidavit filed in D.C. federal court, Floris, a Deputy Assistant Director for Counterterrorism at the FBI, is alleged to have privately claimed she was "running a shadow government" during the 2020 election. Both Floris and Benavides testified in 2023 that they were unaware of the Hunter Biden laptop prior to The New York Post's reporting in October 2020. However, the affidavit claims that the two officials discussed the laptop frequently in briefings, emails, instant messages, and meetings well before the 2020 vote.

These discussions reportedly involved labeling the laptop's contents as Russian disinformation, despite the FBI having verified a copy of its contents in December 2019. The officials are also accused of staging a "confidential" briefing for Senate Republicans in August 2020, warning them against trusting reports of Biden family corruption. This briefing reportedly leaked to the press, further contributing to the narrative that the scandals were Russian disinformation.

An additional former FBI agent has told investigators that Floris and Benavides were part of "Round River," a working group focused on Hunter Biden's scandals and the potential for Russian disinformation. This activity occurred during the same period when another FBI official, Elvis Chan, was warning social media companies about a potential Moscow-backed disinformation operation targeting Hunter Biden, thereby priming platforms to censor reporting on the matter.

Former Bureau chief Kash Patel stated that these allegations suggest a "shadow government" operating within the FBI during President Donald Trump's final year in office, with the intent of opposing him. The extent to which these alleged actions may have influenced the election outcome remains a subject of concern and has fueled calls for a complete exposure of corruption within federal law enforcement agencies.
