The FBI has announced a $15,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the death of a newborn found in a portable restroom at the Electric Forest music festival in Rothbury, Michigan. The infant was discovered on June 28 by an employee of a restroom vending company performing maintenance.
Preliminary autopsy results confirmed that the newborn, defined as a neonate younger than 28 days, was born viable and alive. Michigan State Police are leading the investigation and are being assisted by the FBI's Detroit Field Office.
Investigators previously interviewed a woman who attended the festival and was believed to possess relevant information. This individual was cooperative and has since been cleared as a suspect.
Authorities believe individuals may possess crucial information but are hesitant to come forward. The FBI is offering the reward to encourage the public to share any details related to the newborn's death.
The Electric Forest Festival, a sold-out four-day event, takes place annually at the Double JJ Ranch. Michigan State Police stated they are confident that ongoing investigative efforts and forensic science will identify a suspect.
