FBI Investigates Fatal Shooting at California Spirit Halloween Store
One person is dead and six others injured following a shooting incident at a Spirit Halloween store in Fairfield, California.
The FBI has joined local law enforcement in an investigation following a shooting Friday night at a Spirit Halloween store in Fairfield, California, that left one person dead and six others injured. The FBI’s Sacramento field office confirmed Saturday that its Evidence Response Team was deployed to assist the Fairfield Police Department in processing the crime scene at the Solano Town Center.
Authorities responded to the retail location within the shopping center at approximately 8:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered seven individuals with gunshot wounds. One victim was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the other six were transported to area hospitals. At least three of the injured remained in critical condition as of Saturday.
The shooter fled the scene before law enforcement arrived and has not yet been apprehended. Fairfield Police Chief Dan Marshall stated that investigators are working to determine the number of shots fired, the motive, and whether a single suspect or multiple individuals are involved.
Despite the ongoing search for the suspect, authorities have indicated that there is no immediate public threat. The shopping complex remained an active crime scene throughout Saturday as detectives conducted interviews and worked to identify the perpetrator.
Tactical units conducted searches of the complex, including a nearby movie theater where patrons were questioned. The Spirit Halloween store occupied a space previously used by Best Buy. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots in rapid succession before people began to evacuate the store and surrounding areas. Some witnesses recounted hearing between five and seven shots, prompting patrons to flee into the parking lots and concourses. One account described a store employee seeking refuge in an adjacent restaurant after an armed individual entered and opened fire.
This incident occurred on the same day as a separate fatal shooting at a Spirit Halloween store in Madison Heights, Michigan. In that incident, a 21-year-old man was killed after an argument with an acquaintance. A suspect was arrested at the scene by local authorities, who stated that shooting was targeted and did not pose a further public risk.
