FBI Co-Deputy Director Andrew Bailey Resigns
Bailey, who led election integrity probes, departs for personal reasons after just over a year at the bureau.
FBI Co-Deputy Director Andrew Bailey announced his resignation Monday, citing personal reasons for his departure. Bailey, who had been at the forefront of the bureau's efforts to combat violent crime and investigate election integrity, is returning to his home state of Missouri.
Bailey expressed gratitude to President Trump, AG Todd Blanche, and FBI Director Kash Patel for the opportunity to serve. "Under President Trump’s leadership, we have delivered historic results in our mission to Make America Safe Again," Bailey stated on X. "With great pride in what we have accomplished, I am announcing that I am stepping down to return to my family in Missouri."
A source familiar with Bailey's decision indicated that he had difficulty adjusting to life in Washington and felt distant from his family. FBI Director Kash Patel acknowledged Bailey's contributions, stating, "Although Andrew is leaving the FBI in order to return to his family in Missouri, his fantastic contribution instituting critical reforms which resulted in our historic success will live on."
Bailey joined the Trump administration in September 2025. His tenure included leading a crackdown on violent crime in St. Louis, which resulted in over 90 arrests, the seizure of numerous firearms, and the recovery of significant funds. He was also involved in the FBI's investigation into a Fulton County, Georgia, election office, related to claims of irregularities in the 2020 electoral count.
Prior to his role at the FBI, Bailey, as Missouri's Attorney General, had been an active challenger to the Biden administration's policies, filing lawsuits against student loan forgiveness programs and environmental regulations.
