FBI Agents Reported Silent Triangular Object Accelerating at High Speed, Pentagon Documents Show

Newly released Department of War documents reveal that FBI agents reported witnessing a silent, black triangular object hovering above a mountain ridge before suddenly accelerating at speeds comparable to a fighter jet. The 2026 sighting is among several incidents detailed in the records, which examine unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) and include older military encounters.

The FBI's report described the object as dark, nonreflective, and resembling a drone, with an estimated wingspan of 9 to 15 feet and no visible exhaust or conventional propulsion system. The agents observed the object ascend vertically above a ridgeline, hover for approximately 20 seconds, and then accelerate into a canyon within two to three seconds without making a sound. They also noted a uniform heat signature across the object's surface when viewed through handheld thermal equipment.

The Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), which investigates UAP reports, provided a more detailed account in a separate report. AARO's description stated the object hovered for roughly 20 seconds before disappearing within two to three seconds. Both reports noted the absence of visible engines or conventional aircraft features.

The AARO report indicated that the object's speed was estimated by witnesses rather than measured by instruments. The FBI described the initial sighting as lasting about three seconds, while AARO's account detailed a longer observation period, including the ascent, hover, and rapid flight.

Neither report identifies the object or its origin. The FBI has been contacted for comment regarding whether the images released with their report depict the actual encounter or are illustrations.

Historical Encounters Detailed

Beyond the 2026 sighting, the newly released records also include a U.S. Air Force intelligence report from January 19, 1957. This report details an unidentified radar contact involving a U.S. B-52 bomber flying near Saudi Arabia during a Strategic Air Command mission. The radar detected a target approximately 6,000 yards away, which remained on screen for five to seven minutes before disappearing as the bomber altered course.

Historical records also document sightings near California's Santa Catalina Island. An August 28, 1952, Air Force intelligence report describes three Boy Scouts seeing a silent, silver object moving faster than a jet on June 25, 1952. The scouts claimed the object made a climbing turn before appearing to disintegrate. Investigators noted the scouts' limited experience and lack of instruments made assessing the reliability of their account difficult.

A separate report from March 15, 1955, details a witness near Avalon on Catalina Island who observed a bright, round object change color from orange to red before falling straight down. The Air Force ultimately classified this sighting as a "probable meteor."

Utah Ranch Investigation

The documents also include a 60-page investigation from 2010 by Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies (BAASS) concerning a Utah ranch associated with reports of unexplained phenomena. Investigators interviewed residents who described sightings of purported creatures, balls of light, and other unusual phenomena. The investigation involved surveillance, environmental monitoring, and analysis of hair samples. However, laboratory testing identified the hair samples as belonging to common animals, including domestic dogs and raccoons, and the report did not establish the existence of the alleged creatures or extraordinary phenomena.
