Diary entries authored by Dr. Anthony Fauci during the COVID-19 pandemic have triggered a strong reaction on social media, with critics accusing the former White House COVID advisor of being fixated on his public image and emerging from the crisis as a celebrity.
The journals were made public by Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Rand Paul, R-Ky., as part of the committee's ongoing oversight investigation. The entries detail Fauci's daily activities, conversations with political figures and world leaders, media engagements, and personal observations throughout the pandemic.
Social media users, including media personalities and commentators, voiced their disapproval. Clay Travis, founder of Outkick, urged his followers to examine the diaries, describing Fauci as "one of the true villains of American history." Grabien Media founder Tom Elliott noted that the word "award" appeared 80 times, "hero" 49 times, and "press" 641 times in the entries, while terms like "peer review," "risk-benefit," "learning loss," or "mental health" were not mentioned.
Piers Morgan commented that the diaries were "very damning," suggesting Fauci came across as "a fame-hungry narcissist who regularly said different things in private about Covid to what he told the world publicly."
Others pointed to Fauci's media interactions. Jennifer Sey, former XX-XY president, highlighted an old Politico appearance where Fauci reportedly read flattering tweets about himself.
Many comments also focused on Fauci's relationship with CNN anchor Jake Tapper, who appeared to be a close media ally according to the diary entries. The release of these diaries precedes Fauci's scheduled testimony before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, where he was subpoenaed by Senator Paul.
Senator Paul shared an AI-generated image on X depicting Fauci writing in a diary, suggesting a self-absorbed preoccupation. He captioned the image, "What Anthony Fauci looked like every night when he wrote about how great he is in his diary."
Fox News Digital reached out to Dr. Fauci and CNN for comment but did not receive an immediate response.
