Dr. Anthony Fauci, then director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, privately communicated concerns that the COVID-19 vaccine could "theoretically" be linked to miscarriages in pregnant women, according to text messages released by Senators Rand Paul and Ron Johnson. These private messages, sent on January 25, 2021, to then-CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky and Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, contrasted with his public assurances.

"Since many people have significant cytokines storm and fever after the 2nd dose, this theoretically could be associated with miscarriage in the 1st trimester," Fauci wrote in one of the texts. This private communication occurred shortly before February 3, 2021, when Fauci publicly stated that the FDA had found "no red flags" regarding pregnant women and the vaccine.

The messages were part of over 34,000 texts and 522 voicemails obtained by the Senate Homeland Security Committee from Fauci's government-issued cell phone. The senators noted that the phone reportedly has only three contacts listed and that it is too early to determine if any data has been deleted.
