Glenn Bradley of Detroit recounted the final moments of his daughter, Aamina, who drowned at Maheras-Gentry Park after her nine-year-old cousin fell into the river over the weekend. Bradley described the tragic event, stating Aamina's last words to him were, “Dad help me,” as she was pulled into a strong current.
Bradley jumped into the river in an attempt to rescue his daughter, but she disappeared beneath the water before he could reach her. Bystanders managed to save both Bradley and the cousin, but Aamina could not be saved. Police recovered her body from the river.
The incident occurred while the family was gathered at the park to celebrate Aamina's brother's graduation. According to the Detroit Free Press, a GoFundMe page has been established to support the grieving family and has raised over $1,100.
Bradley told WXYZ that he had an argument with Aamina the night before the incident. He recalled that she had been upset with him and that they had a long conversation, ending with her hugging him. The next morning, she gave him a hug and kiss and told him she loved him.
He described his daughter as his "favorite girl in the world" and expressed his grief, stating that the loss does not feel real and he experiences moments of breakdown and numbness. Aamina was 14 years old at the time of her death.
