Father Punches Man Who Warned Against Beaching During Storm

A confrontation erupted on Polzeath Beach in Cornwall when a father, accompanied by his young family, proceeded to boogie board in the sea despite 80mph wind warnings and RNLI red flags.

Footage captured on Friday, October 23, shows the family, dressed in wetsuits and carrying boogie boards, heading towards the water. A witness reported that a passerby approached the father, seemingly to express concern about the safety of entering the rough sea during Storm Austen. The witness stated that the father then emerged from the water and punched the passerby.

Despite the beach being flagged as dangerous by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), the father appeared intent on continuing his activity with his children. Following the physical altercation, the father and his children remained on the beach until RNLI lifeguards intervened and escorted them away, according to the witness.

"We thought they must be crazy going in as the swell and sea state was so rough, not to mention the 50 mph winds," the witness told Cornwall Live, requesting anonymity. "After a couple of minutes of being in the water, a passer-by walked to the water's edge. We assumed they were suggesting it wasn't safe."

The witness described the father sprinting out of the water to confront the passerby, who was perceived as being concerned for the family's safety. "The dad then got very close to the passer-by and put his fists up. Before we could start recording, he punched him," the witness recounted.

The passerby reportedly shrugged off the incident and walked away. The family was subsequently asked to leave the beach by lifeguards.
