Father 'Murdered' By Son in Brutal Stabbing, Chilling 911 Call Reveals

A Long Island father of three was allegedly stabbed more than 40 times by his son while he pleaded for his life in a chilling 911 call, authorities said. Edward Brown, 69, was attacked early on Sept. 7 in his Mastic, Suffolk County, studio apartment by his son, Sage Arias-Brown, 33.

A neighbor heard a loud noise followed by Brown screaming, according to an indictment.

During the attack, which occurred around 12:30 a.m., Brown managed to contact 911. "I'm being murdered. What are you doing to me, Sage?" the father is heard saying on the recording, the indictment states.

Authorities reported that Arias-Brown was seen leaving his father's apartment minutes after the 911 call was made. He was arrested by Suffolk County deputies less than half a mile away as they responded to the scene. Brown's body was discovered inside the apartment, described as "covered in blood."

"This defendant is accused of viciously taking the life of his 69-year-old father as the victim desperately called the police for help," said Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney in a press release. "The facts in this case are heartbreaking. This indictment is an important step towards holding the defendant accountable for the brutal violence he allegedly inflicted on his own parent."

An obituary described Brown as "a seeker, a philosopher, and a lifelong learner, a deeply spiritual man with a gentle and restless soul." It further stated he "had a remarkable ability to see the best in everyone around him, and a gift for helping others recognize the best within themselves."

Arias-Brown was arraigned on Sept. 17 on one count of murder in the second degree and was ordered held without bail. He is scheduled to appear in court again on Oct. 21 and faces a potential sentence of 25 years to life in prison if convicted. An attorney for Arias-Brown did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
