Father-in-Law Misses Son's Wedding While on European Vacation

Annie Knight's father-in-law, James Brayshaw, was on a trip in Lisbon, Portugal, during his son Henry Brayshaw's wedding last Thursday. Brayshaw, a former AFL commentator and TV personality, shared photos of his trip on Instagram, showing him with friends and his wife, Lisa, in the Portuguese capital.

Knight, 29, and Henry Brayshaw, 28, were married at The Valley Estate in the Currumbin Valley on the Gold Coast. James Brayshaw was reportedly over 18,000 kilometers away during the ceremony.

Knight expressed sadness that some family members were not present but emphasized that Henry's estrangement from his father predates her relationship with Henry. "Henry hasn't had a relationship with his dad for over three years, long before we were together. Their estrangement has nothing to do with me," Knight told the Daily Mail. "People assume that he has decided not to be a part of Henry's life because of me, and that is just not true!"

She added that while she wished Henry's father had been there for his son's sake, she understood the current state of their relationship. "Given where Henry's relationship is now, I think it wouldn't have been the right time," Knight stated.

Knight highlighted the presence of Henry's mother, Sarah, and his two brothers at the wedding, noting their support was what mattered most. "Sarah's 12-minute speech about how much she loves Henry and me! That's all that matters to us, that they came and gave it 100 per cent and had nothing but love and support for us," she said.

Knight also expressed hope for a future reconciliation between Henry and his father, and for her own relationship with James Brayshaw. "There is a chance for Henry and his dad to reconnect one day. But right now, Henry and I are in this phase where the people in our lives are immensely sacred to us and we would do anything for them," she explained. "You don't know what the future holds, but of course we are both hoping they reconnect and I can have a relationship with James as well."

The couple became engaged in March 2025 when Henry proposed during a holiday in Los Angeles. James Brayshaw's wife, Lisa, has been married to him for three years.
