Jordan Stannard, 38, is recovering in the hospital after a severe accident last month on Venice Boulevard in Los Angeles. Stannard was placing his daughter, Sadie, 2, into their car after a shopping trip when a truck began speeding down the street.

Witnessing the approaching danger, Stannard threw Sadie into the vehicle to protect her. He sustained the full impact of the truck himself, which severely injured his left foot and leg. "I literally just threw her into the car. I remember the truck fully hitting my body and hitting me and twisting me around," Stannard told KABC.

Doctors were forced to amputate Stannard's left leg below the knee due to the severity of the injuries. Stannard, who has previously completed marathons and Ironman challenges, expressed gratitude that his daughter was unharmed. "That is the thing that I am most thankful for. As I get further away from the accident, I'm just more and more thankful for that, because I can't even begin the thought of what could have happened to her," he said.

His wife has been a significant source of support during his recovery. "I have the best wife in the world, and she has just really shown up for me, and she is the engine that drives our family. She is the reason why I'm able to have so much strength," Stannard stated.

Stannard is expected to be released from the hospital soon and hopes to run the LA Marathon next year after receiving a prosthetic leg. He stated his determination to remain a positive father figure. "There's no room to be like, "Boo hoo." There's no room to be angry, you know? I want to be the best dad for my daughters, and I can't let this affect the kind of dad I want to be."

Friends and family have launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist the family. They are currently navigating the need to relocate from their three-story condominium to a single-story home to accommodate Stannard's recovery. The fundraiser noted the immense challenges ahead, stating, "He will require a prosthetic limb and will have a long road of recovery and rehabilitation ahead of him."

It remains unclear if the driver of the truck has been charged. The Los Angeles Police Department has been contacted for further information.
