Father Confesses to Wife's Murder After Teen Son Reveals Brutal Beating
A Bay Area father admitted to killing his wife, Jasmyne Garcia, after their son described a violent assault that left her unrecognizable and suffering from severe injuries.

Roy Anthony Lopez, 37, of Morgan Hill, has been arrested and charged with murder and child endangerment after he brought his gravely injured wife, Jasmyne Garcia, 34, to Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose on Saturday morning and confessed to her killing. The couple’s 14-year-old son provided critical details to authorities, describing how his father, who he stated was intoxicated, brutally beat Garcia the night before, leaving her with severe injuries. The teenager alleged that his father first attacked him when he asked permission to go out with a friend, grabbing him by the neck and repeatedly slamming his head against a bed. Despite the initial assault on the son, the father continued to beat Garcia, with the couple’s younger children, aged 6 and 3, present in the home. The 6-year-old told authorities that he hid under the bed as his father punched his mother in the face. When the 14-year-old returned home around 8 p.m., he observed extensive damage to the residence, including blood throughout the home, holes in the walls, and water in the kitchen. He found his mother awake but unable to speak, groaning in pain with swollen eyes and a face that was “unrecognizable” and severely inflamed. The son also reported that his mother had defecated herself and was unable to stand. Garcia was allegedly left on the floor with her injuries until the following morning, when Lopez, after sobering up, drove her to the hospital. Medical staff found her in his car in the hospital parking lot. Garcia's family described her as a devoted mother whose children were her world. A GoFundMe campaign established by her family stated that her greatest joy was being their mom and that she was a beloved daughter and sister who made people feel loved and welcomed. The Santa Clara County Department of Family and Children’s Services took custody of the three children following the incident.
