Father and Son Critically Injured in "Unprovoked" Midnight Home Invasion

A father and his 15-year-old son are in critical condition after being stabbed during a home invasion by two masked men in Thurnby, Leicestershire. The attack occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, according to Leicestershire Police.

The mother, in her 40s, sustained minor injuries to her hand and shoulder and has since been discharged from the hospital. Three other children present in the house were unharmed. The assailants fled the scene before armed officers arrived.

Neighbors described hearing "horrific screams" and witnessing two men fleeing the property in the darkness. One neighbor recounted seeing "shouting, screaming, banging noises" that woke them up and subsequently led to a call to emergency services. The response involved a significant police presence, with approximately 16 to 17 vehicles reported at the scene.

Detective Inspector Lorna Granville, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, characterized the incident as a "completely unprovoked" and "violent attack against a family in their own home." Police are investigating the motive and appealing to the public for information.

Investigators are particularly interested in any suspicious activity in the area of Station Road and Somerby Road between 11 p.m. on Wednesday and the early hours of Thursday. They are urging anyone with dashcam footage, CCTV, or doorbell camera recordings to come forward, emphasizing that any information, however small, could be crucial.

Forensic investigators were observed working at the scene on Friday, with the road cordoned off and under police guard. Residents in the vicinity expressed fear and concern for the family's well-being, describing the victims as "nice people who keep themselves to themselves and good neighbours."
