Father and Son Critically Injured in 'Unprovoked' Home Invasion

A 15-year-old boy and his father are critically injured after being stabbed during what police are calling a "completely unprovoked" home invasion in Thurnby, Leicestershire. The attack occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday when masked men broke into the family home.

The victims, identified as 15-year-old Imrane Chelirem and his father Mohamed Chelirem, in his 50s, are currently in the hospital in life-threatening conditions. A woman, in her 40s, sustained minor injuries to her hand and shoulder and has since been discharged. Three other children who were present in the house at the time were unharmed.

Mr. Chelirem is reportedly a director of a vehicle recovery firm, and his son Imrane is a youth footballer for Coalville Town Raptors. The football club has established a fundraising appeal to support the family, stating that the community has been left devastated by the incident.

"Imrane is so much more than our number 15. He's a teammate, a friend and a huge part of our football family," the club said in a statement. "Keep fighting, Imrane. Your whole football family is right behind you."

The fundraiser aims to show the family they are not alone during this difficult time. Police have established a cordon around the property as the investigation continues, led by the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU). Additional patrols are being conducted in the area to reassure residents.

Local residents expressed shock and concern over the incident. Ruth, a 21-year resident of Thurnby, noted an increased police presence, including searches of nearby areas with sniffer dogs, and stated that the event has changed her perception of local safety.

Detective Inspector Lorna Granville of EMSOU appealed for information from the public. "This was a violent attack against a family in their own home which appears to have been completely unprovoked," DI Granville said. "We owe it to the victims to locate the perpetrators and bring them to justice."

Authorities are seeking information from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious around Station Road and Somerby Road between 11 p.m. on Wednesday and the early hours of Thursday. Police are particularly interested in dashcam footage, CCTV, or doorbell camera recordings from the period. Any information, no matter how seemingly insignificant, could be crucial to the investigation. Those with information are urged to contact Leicestershire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
