Police have initiated a search for two women and a man who fled on foot following a fatal hit-and-run collision on the A8 near Edinburgh Airport on Tuesday. The crash, reported around 9:25 a.m., involved a grey Mercedes A250, a black Renault Captur, a grey Skoda Karoq, and a grey Hyundai i30 between the Newbridge and Gogar roundabouts.
Emergency services responded to the scene, where the 58-year-old driver of the Hyundai i30 was pronounced dead. Four other individuals involved in the collision were transported to a hospital for treatment and have since been released.
Insp. Thomas Mallinson stated, "My thoughts are with the family of the person who died at this incredibly difficult time." He added, "Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this crash, and it is vital we trace the three people who left the area before police arrived." Police are appealing to the public for any information and have requested that anyone with details contact Police Scotland.
A police helicopter and a dog unit were deployed to aid in the search for the individuals who departed the scene on foot. The Scottish Ambulance Service dispatched multiple resources, including three ambulances, two special operations response teams, a paramedic response unit, and a critical care paramedic.
The A8 was closed for several hours to facilitate an investigation and reopened around 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday.
