A brown bear affectionately known as 89 Backpack has been crowned the winner of the annual Fat Bear Week competition, an event run by the Katmai National Park in Alaska. The National Parks Service described the victory as a "battle of size, skill, snack acquisition, and strategic loafing."

Backpack secured the win over a bear known as 910 in the final round, garnering 103,344 votes compared to 910's 98,253. This year marked the thirteenth iteration of the competition.
