Fashion Designer Andrea Marshall Faces Sweatshop Charges, Appears in Court
Andrea Marshall, owner of Salon 1884 LLC, appeared in New York City court on charges of operating a sweatshop, facing accusations of grand larceny and scheme to defraud.
Andrea Marshall, 44, the owner of Salon 1884 LLC, appeared in New York City Criminal Court on Wednesday to face charges related to operating a sweatshop. Marshall, known for her A-list fashion designs, was seen in court wearing a striking outfit.
Marshall faces 17 charges, including grand larceny and scheme to defraud. She has pleaded not guilty to the accusations. The charges allege that her company, Salon 1884 LLC, made employees work excessive hours without proper compensation. Court documents and alleged text messages indicate that employees attempted to reach out to Marshall regarding unpaid wages.
Marsall's company sells its designs for thousands of dollars through luxury retailers and online platforms such as Neiman Marcus, Moda Operandi, and Net-a-Porter.
Upon leaving the courthouse, Marshall was approached by a reporter. She reportedly moved quickly, appearing to miss an elevator she was meant to board. 
Marshall denies the allegations of making workers toil 17 hours a day for no pay.
Celebrities have been seen wearing designs from Salon 1884. Cynthia Erivo wore a long-sleeve leather dress from the brand on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
