Jane Lu, the founder of the Australian fashion empire Showpo, expressed astonishment at her husband James Waldie's outfit choice for a date night at a city restaurant. Waldie arrived wearing a grey hoodie, navy shorts, and UGG boots, a stark contrast to his wife's more formal attire.
Lu, who was dressed in an ivory knitted jumper, lace skirt, and knee-high boots, shared her reaction in a social media video. "POV: Meeting my husband for date night and remembering that he doesn't know how to dress himself," she stated. "We own a $100 million fashion company and this is all he wears... I shouldn't be surprised anymore."
The video, which garnered over 160,000 views, sparked a divided reaction among viewers. Some praised Waldie's "I don't give a f extContent': 'This just makes him look super rich and idgaf vibes (I don't give a f extContent)', to which Lu agreed, noting his "idgaf vibes." Others commented that "success isn't always a materialistic, visual appearance, it's the hard work that goes on behind the scenes." Many found the couple "perfect together," with one commenter stating, "That's a man who's comfortable and shows you that true wealth doesn't have to scream like so many try to make you believe on socials."
Some viewers suggested that Waldie's fashion choices could inspire a men's collection for Showpo. "Does this not inspire you to create a Showpo Men's capsule collection?" one user asked.
This incident was not an isolated one. Shortly after, Waldie was seen in a nearly identical outfit – a red hoodie with a university logo, navy shorts, and UGG boots – for another dinner, despite Lu's belief he would dress up.
"POV: This is why my husband shouldn't be allowed to dress himself," Lu joked at the time, noting, "He said he was going to dress up today... He said he'll make an effort tonight for dinner. I didn't think he meant a red hoodie."
Lu has previously shared videos of Waldie wearing UGG boots, humorously pointing out his consistency. During warmer months, his go-to footwear is flip-flops. She affectionately quipped, "The man that usually wears the exact same thing finally made an effort. He'll be back in his UGG boots in no time."
