Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform UK party, has announced his resignation as a Member of Parliament for Clacton, triggering a by-election. Farage stated his decision is a protest against what he described as scrutiny over unregistered donations of cash and support, framing it as a battle between "people versus the establishment."

Farage asserted that he has done nothing wrong and accused political opponents in Westminster of utilizing sleaze investigations as a "political tool." The Reform UK leader was elected as the representative for Clacton two years ago.

Despite Farage's resignation, the scrutiny from the Parliamentary watchdog concerning his failure to declare donations may continue. The standards commissioner's investigation is not precluded by his departure and could proceed regardless of the outcome of the upcoming by-election.

In a notable development, other major political parties, including Labour, the Conservatives, the Liberal Democrats, and the Green Party, have declared they will not field candidates in the by-election. Rupert Lowe's Restore Britain has also indicated it will not contest the seat.
