Far-left Twitch streamer Hasan Piker has called on progressive politicians to adopt bolder messaging, urging them to be more "bold, brave and unapologetic" in presenting their agendas. Piker specifically criticized New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, telling him to "shut the f--- up" over what he perceived as overly cautious political communication.

In an interview on Zeteo's "We're Not Kidding" podcast, Piker expressed frustration with politicians who he believes are too concerned with optics and too willing to moderate their positions when faced with criticism. He suggested that such hesitation can lead the public to doubt the politicians' genuine commitment to their policies.

Piker used Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., as an example, stating that while she has embraced ambitious policies, her presentation can sometimes be too focused on public perception. "The way she carries herself, I think, is a little bit too, like, optics-driven, too liberal and too optics-driven," Piker said.

He contrasted this with his view of Mamdani, whom he praised for effectively merging progressive policies with language that can resonate with a broader audience. However, Piker reiterated his desire for Mamdani and other progressives to communicate their platforms with greater confidence and less concern for how they are perceived.

Piker clarified that his critique did not signify a complete break with Mamdani, stating, "I love the guy. I have my disagreements with him from time to time." The streamer's comments come amid broader discussions about the direction of the Democratic Party and the strategies employed by its progressive wing.
