Thierry Henry faced online criticism for his reaction to a discussion with Fox colleague Alexi Lalas about Folarin Balogun's suspended red card during the USA's World Cup elimination.

While analyzing the team's exit after their loss to Belgium, Henry commented on the controversy surrounding Balogun's one-match ban, which was overturned by FIFA. Henry stated that while he initially disagreed with the red card decision, he did not believe FIFA's reversal of the suspension was the correct move and suggested it energized their opponent, Belgium.

Lalas pressed Henry for an explanation of his stance, but the former France striker declined to elaborate, leading to a visibly tense moment on air that host Rebecca Lowe intervened to de-escalate.

Following the broadcast, numerous social media users expressed support for Lalas and labeled Henry as "arrogant." Comments included dissatisfaction with Henry's refusal to fully explain his opinion and questioning the logic of his position.

The situation arose after FIFA controversially reinstated Balogun's availability for the USA's last-16 match against Belgium, overturning a previously issued one-game ban. Reports emerged that President Donald Trump had contacted FIFA President Gianni Infantino to request a review of the suspension. Despite Balogun's availability, the USA lost to Belgium 4-1.

Lalas had previously expressed support for President Trump and had commented on the Balogun situation on a Fox News program, characterizing the decision as a welcome development that allowed the U.S. to "stand up for itself" and give the team the "best possible chance of being successful."
