A baseball fan disrupted the Subway Series game between the New York Yankees and the New York Mets at Yankee Stadium on September 11, waving a Palestinian flag before being removed from the field. The intrusion happened at approximately 9:11 p.m. on the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The individual, wearing a jersey that read 'No Kings,' ran onto the field in the outfield during the seventh inning. Security guards quickly apprehended the fan, leading to chants of 'USA' from the angered spectators. Some audience members reportedly threw drinks at the man as he was escorted away.
The game was part of an evening that included significant tributes to the victims of the 9/11 attacks. The Yankees held a pregame ceremony featuring members of their 2001 team, including Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Paul O'Neill, Tino Martinez, Scott Brosius, and Mariano Rivera, along with former manager Joe Torre. They were joined by honor guards from the NYPD, FDNY, and PAPD as a large American flag was displayed.
Earlier in the day, current Yankees captain Aaron Judge and pitcher Gerrit Cole joined Jeter in laying a wreath at the 9/11 monument in Monument Park. During the game, both Mets and Yankees players wore special navy caps adorned with either 'FDNY' or 'NYPD' in tribute to the city's first responders.
