A search is underway for Sally Grace Contarino, a 26-year-old Australian tourist who disappeared in Las Vegas three weeks ago. Contarino was last seen on June 20, the day before she was scheduled to fly home to Melbourne.
Her family is particularly focused on finding a distinctive necklace she always wore, a citrine pendant on a silver chain from luxury jeweler John Hardy. They believe the necklace could be a vital clue if it was lost or found by someone who may not realize its significance. The necklace is described as a potential lead, especially since her luggage was left behind at her accommodation.
Contarino was last captured on CCTV leaving a supermarket in Skye Canyon, northwest Las Vegas, on June 20, reportedly heading towards Mount Charleston. Her sister, Lauren, confirmed that Contarino did hike Mount Charleston on the day she was last seen.
Contarino arrived in the U.S. on June 13 and was traveling alone. Concerns for her welfare grew when she did not return for her stored luggage at Bungalows Hostel after checking out on June 20, and subsequently missed her flight on June 21.
One of Contarino's final communications, revealed in a police report, was a Facebook message to a male friend on June 19, outlining her plans to hike at Lone Mountain, which offers views of Mount Charleston. It remains unknown if she had planned to hike with someone else.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department stated that officers are continuing to investigate and urged anyone with information regarding her whereabouts to come forward. Local social media groups, such as Real Vegas Locals, have been sharing updates on behalf of Contarino's sisters and coordinating search efforts. Volunteers have been reviewing maps, bus routes, hiking trails, CCTV footage, and weather conditions in the area to piece together a timeline and separate facts from speculation. Community members with local knowledge are also assisting by providing information about the terrain and conditions around Skye Canyon and Mount Charleston.
