Family of Woman Killed by ICE Agent Sues U.S. Government

The family of Renee Nicole Good, who was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis, has filed lawsuits against the U.S. government and several immigration officials. The legal actions, initiated by Good's partner, Becca Good, and her brother, Brent Ganger, allege wrongful death, conspiracy, and other violations.

Renee Good, 37, a mother of three, was killed on January 7 during a federal immigration operation in Hennepin County. According to Becca Good, they had stopped their vehicle to support neighbors during the operation. Bystander footage captured Renee Good in the driver's seat of an SUV, blocking a road and repeatedly honking her horn.

Video analysis indicates that ICE officers approached the vehicle. When an officer ordered Good to exit her car, she briefly reversed before turning the steering wheel. As the officer approached the driver's side window, he fired into the windshield. He then fired two more times, fatally striking Good.

At the time of the incident, federal officials stated the officer acted in self-defense and described Good's actions as "an act of domestic terrorism." The lawsuit against the United States seeks damages for Good's wrongful death, citing "immense suffering" and "profound and permanent losses" to her family. It also alleges intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress against Becca Good.

A separate lawsuit claims a conspiracy to interfere with civil rights, seeking a jury trial. This legal action describes the operation as a "carefully planned, coordinated effort between senior federal officials and private actors to make two ethnic communities" targets of aggression and abduction. The lawsuit names ICE agent Jonathan Ross, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, former Homeland Security head Kristi Noem, Border Patrol commander-at-large Gregory Bovino, and former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski as defendants. It alleges collaboration between federal agencies and private entities for a discriminatory operation.

Becca and Renee Good were not legally married but considered each other wives. They had recently moved to Minneapolis from Kansas City, Missouri. The killing of Renee Good, along with another U.S. citizen, Alex Pretti, in Minneapolis weeks later, fueled public outrage and calls for stricter oversight of immigration enforcement.
