A family of eight, including six children, died Friday morning in a house fire in Grand Haven Township, west Michigan. The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office has classified the fire as "suspicious," according to local reports.
Deputies and fire crews initially responded to 911 calls between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. after nearby residents reported a strong smell of smoke. At that time, crews searched the area but could not identify the source.
Firefighters returned to the scene around noon when more reports of white smoke emanating from a home on Riverside Trail surfaced. Crews were able to extinguish the flames and subsequently discovered eight bodies inside the property.
Officials have not yet released the cause of the fire, and the investigation is ongoing.
