A dispute has emerged between the family of late boxing legend Ricky Hatton and the trustees appointed to manage his estate, with sources close to the family describing the situation as a "complete mess." Hatton, who died in September of last year at the age of 46, reportedly did not leave a will, complicating the distribution of his estimated £40 million fortune.
Almost a year after his death, Hatton's three children—Campbell, 25, and daughters Millie, 14, and Fearne, 12—are reportedly still unaware of the specifics regarding their father's estate. "It's been more than eight months since Ricky died and the family is no closer to finding out what's going on with his estate," a source told The Sun.
During his boxing career, Hatton amassed his fortune through fight earnings and a variety of business ventures, many reportedly connected to property investments in his hometown of Hyde and other locations across England. Those familiar with Hatton's financial dealings suggest his investments were intended to ensure a secure future for his children, with one source stating he was "determined to ensure that he had a financial legacy from his incredible career."
In a separate incident that occurred earlier this week, a vehicle belonging to Hatton was set on fire in what police are investigating as a targeted attack. The car was torched outside the home of his son, Campbell Hatton, in Tameside. Greater Manchester Police were called to the scene on Monday night after the blaze broke out, damaging the vehicle and smashing a front window. CCTV footage reportedly shows two individuals involved in the incident. Campbell Hatton expressed his distress on social media, noting the car was one of the few possessions he had from his late father and contained sentimental items.
Police are appealing for information as they investigate the incident, which they believe to be a targeted attack with no wider risk to the public. No arrests have been made at this stage. Following the car fire, emergency services were also called to the area on Tuesday morning due to a reported gas leak, though no injuries were reported.
