Family Expresses Concern Over Lack of Contact with Couple Detained in Iran

The family of Craig and Lindsay Foreman, a couple detained in Iran, has expressed deep concern over the lack of regular contact, stating that promises of communication have not been kept. Joe Bennett, Lindsay's son, conveyed the family's frustration, emphasizing their understanding of the British government's limitations in dictating actions to Iranian authorities.

"What I do expect is for our government to stand up for its citizens, to challenge what is happening and to keep pushing when commitments are made and then not honoured," Bennett stated. He noted that his mother and Craig Foreman ended their hunger strikes based on assurances that conditions would improve, including regular calls.

"Instead, we are once again in a position where we are waiting, trying to understand what is happening from a distance and being given another date further down the road. That cannot just become normal," he added.

Bennett, who resides in Folkestone, Kent, is seeking a meeting with Foreign Secretary David Miliband to understand the government's efforts to secure the couple's return to Britain. He believes it is reasonable to question whether all possible avenues are being pursued and if the case is being treated with the necessary urgency, especially after more than 600 days of detention.

"After everything Mum and Craig have been through, it is reasonable for us to ask whether every possible avenue is genuinely being explored and whether this case is being treated with the urgency it deserves," Bennett said, advocating for a direct discussion with Miliband.
