A family vacationing in San Diego found themselves in a peculiar situation after checking into an Airbnb and discovering a beach photograph hanging on the wall that they believe features them.
TikTok user Aubrey Birrell shared a video on July 2 detailing the moment her family encountered the artwork in the rental's hallway. As they explored the accommodation, Birrell's father pointed out the resemblance of figures in the photograph to family members.
"We're looking at this picture, and my dad is like, 'This looks like me,'" Birrell recounted in the video. She then proceeded to identify what she believes are her father, sister, and brother in the image, noting they appeared to be wearing swimsuits she recognized.
Her sister, Libby, who was present during the discovery, expressed a mix of unease and amusement, stating, "It's unsettling — random Airbnb. We are literally in this picture. We are on our Airbnb wall."
The video has since gained significant traction on TikTok, with viewers sharing their reactions. Some commenters described the situation as eerie, likening it to the beginning of a horror movie, while others speculated about the coincidental nature of the find, with one user humorously suggesting it was proof of living in a simulation.
This incident has also prompted other users to share similar unusual experiences. One commenter recounted a time their uncle received a postcard featuring a photo of their grandfather, who had passed away years earlier. Another user shared a story about finding a newspaper at a hotel that featured a photograph of themselves and their mother from a previous beach festival.
Birrell's video and the subsequent online discussion have highlighted the surprising and often uncanny coincidences that can arise in everyday life, turning a simple Airbnb stay into a viral internet phenomenon.
