A woman's family is seeking answers after she collapsed and died in a general practitioner's waiting room, with an inquest hearing that she had been waiting days for an appointment. Jaqueline Watkins, 66, of Llanyravon, Torfaen, had been feeling unwell at home for several days before contacting her GP practice.
The inquest, held Tuesday at Gwent Coroners' Court, was told that Watkins was given an appointment later in the week. She attended her scheduled appointment on June 18 and collapsed in the waiting room of Llanyravon Surgery. Despite efforts by medical staff at the scene, Watkins could not be revived.
Her family has expressed concerns about what they perceive as potential missed opportunities in her GP care, stating they have "many unanswered questions about the advice and care given." A post-mortem examination was conducted, but the coroner noted that no specific medical cause of death was provided at the brief hearing.
Rose Farmer, area coroner for Gwent, confirmed that a full inquest will be held in March of the following year to further investigate the circumstances surrounding Watkins' death.
