The family of Glenwood 'Bubba' Pysher, a 22-year-old college baseball player, is seeking answers after he was fatally shot by police officers in Upper Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, early Sunday morning. Pysher was allegedly attempting to enter a house he mistakenly believed was his friend's home after celebrating a birthday.
According to his mother, Erin, Pysher had been at a bar with friends before they decided to go to a friend's house. While walking to the location, he ended up at the wrong address on Snyder Road. The residents of that home called the police to report a possible break-in.
Pysher was found by responding officers at the rear of the property. The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office stated that officers discharged their weapons, striking Pysher twice. His mother indicated that the incident occurred rapidly, with police arriving and firing shots within minutes of the initial call, and that no de-escalation measures like a Taser were used.
Mothers of Pysher's friends reported that he was unarmed, carrying only his cellphone and a book bag. Surveillance cameras at the property reportedly captured the shooting, and the District Attorney's office is reviewing the footage as part of its investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
Pysher's family has expressed distress and a desire for transparency. His father, Glenwood, stated, "I just want things to be done right. I want to know the facts." The family also mentioned they have not heard from the police department since the incident.
Pysher was a passionate baseball player who had recently transferred to Saint Elizabeth University in Florham Park, New Jersey, and was preparing to start classes. He was remembered by his parents and friends as a well-loved young man with a bright future.
"He was such a good kid," Glenwood said. "The community here loved him, and nobody can believe this happened to this young man who wouldn't hurt a fly."
Friends of the family have called for justice and for measures to prevent similar tragedies. Pysher also worked part-time at a local Walmart.
