Family Continues Fight for Justice 26 Years After Vicky Glass's Murder

The family of Vicky Glass, who was murdered just days after her 21st birthday, are continuing their decades-long fight for justice, stating they will "never stop fighting" to find her killer.

Vicky Glass was last seen in Union Street, Middlesbrough, around 4 a.m. on September 24, 2000. Her body was discovered six weeks later, on November 3, 2000, approximately 20 miles away in a stream on moorland near Danby, North Yorkshire.

Since her disappearance, murder detectives have reviewed over 200 hours of CCTV footage and arrested four individuals. The most recent arrest, a 65-year-old man in June of this year, resulted in the individual remaining on bail, with no charges yet filed in the case. Vicky's mother, Deborah, passed away without ever learning who was responsible for her daughter's death.

"As another year passes, as we sit to write another plea, we are finding it hard to express how deeply we feel," the family stated. "We have spoken about our pain year after year, how can we emphasise that this pain increases as the time goes on. It is vicious and brutal. It breaks us down, but it will never stop us from fighting for Vicky, to keep asking for your help, to get answers, to get justice for Vicky."

The family shared their ongoing grief, noting the loss of not only Vicky's life but also the potential life she could have lived and the impact on their own family dynamics. "We mourn every single day, not being able to talk to her, go shopping with her, sitting around a table with her having a family meal, laughing with her, making memories with her, all the small things that are taken for granted we do not have," the statement continued. "For 26 years we have been waiting for the cold-blooded monster that murdered Vicky to be named, for justice to be served, for them to pay the price for what they have done."

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Chatterton of Cleveland Police acknowledged the family's long wait for answers. "Vicky's family have longed for answers regarding her death and the person responsible for 26 years," Chatterton said. "As we continue to investigate Vicky's murder, we would again appeal for anyone with information regarding Vicky's whereabouts, between the last sighting of her and her body being found six weeks later, to contact us. Any information at all could assist us in finally bringing to justice the person who murdered Vicky Glass, and bringing an end to this nightmare for her family."

In 2022, police released CCTV footage showing Vicky with a friend in the Cannon Park area of Middlesbrough hours before she disappeared. The footage also captured her interacting with a lorry driver who provided her with money. Police noted that Vicky left personal effects with the driver and agreed to meet him later that day. The driver was described as a white male, broad-built, aged 34 to 38 at the time, with a distinctive mole on his face. He was considered a person of interest.

Vicky, identified as a sex worker, was last seen being dropped off by a taxi at 4 a.m. on September 24, 2000, on Union Street at the junction of Eshwood Square in Middlesbrough.
