Faena New York Hotel Thrives a Year After Opening, Featuring New Spa and Upcoming Speakeasy

The Faena New York hotel, a year into its operation in Chelsea, is establishing itself as a notable destination with the recent addition of a 17,000-square-foot spa and the forthcoming launch of a speakeasy.

Argentine hotelier Alan Faena, known for his theatrical and maximalist approach to hospitality, has brought his signature style to New York City. The hotel, situated at the base of a new building at 11th Avenue and West 18th Street, occupies a space originally intended for a Six Senses hotel before the developer faced bankruptcy. Billionaire Steve Witkoff acquired the property, partnering with Faena, who had an existing relationship with Witkoff's financial backer, Len Blavatnik.

The hotel's design contrasts with the minimalist aesthetic originally planned for the building. Instead, it features Faena's characteristic opulent style, including a grand lobby with a golden spiral staircase and murals by Argentine artist Diego Gravinese. The entrance is marked by doormen in traditional attire topped with Faena's signature top hat.

The 120 guest rooms, along with common areas like the Living Room lounge, Tierra Santa Healing House spa, and La Boca restaurant, are adorned with bold artwork, animal prints, rich velvets, and Art Deco elements. Despite the elaborate decor, the suites are designed to be comfortable and practical.

The recently opened spa, spanning 17,000 square feet, offers a hammam, multiple plunge pools, treatment rooms, an infrared sauna, fitness studios, and treatments incorporating South American ingredients. The hotel's restaurant, helmed by Francis Mallmann, provides a sophisticated dining experience.

Future additions to the hotel include a speakeasy named El Secreto, designed conceptually by Sebastian Errazuriz, and a street-level Faena Theater. The theater is envisioned as a cabaret venue inspired by the hotel's Miami counterpart, featuring artwork and an Old Hollywood ambiance.

Alan Faena described the hotel as embracing and amplifying the spirit of innovation and creativity in New York City, aiming to offer a touch of magic. Accommodations at the Faena New York start at $1,395 per night.
