Eligible Facebook users who were active on the platform between May 24, 2007, and December 22, 2022, and who filed a claim are beginning to receive additional payments from the $725 million privacy class action lawsuit settlement. Emails confirming these payments began to be distributed in early June.
One email reviewed by The California Post stated, "This additional settlement payment will be issued in the next 3-4 business days. The payment method you selected to receive your settlement payment was ACH."
The first round of payouts from the settlement was distributed in September 2025. A second payout distribution was approved by the United States District Court for the Northern District of California in May 2026, with payments being issued over a four-week period.
The lawsuit, which stemmed from the 2018 Cambridge Analytica scandal, alleged that Meta Platforms, Facebook's parent company, misused and sold user data to third parties. Facebook agreed to the $725 million settlement without admitting any wrongdoing.
Due to the large number of eligible users, with Facebook having over 240 million U.S. users in 2022, the individual payout amounts are not substantial. Some recipients have shared their modest earnings on social media platforms, with one user noting they received $7.31 and another joking about being able to afford two slices of pizza.
