The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) temporarily paused some incoming flights to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Monday morning, citing staffing shortages at a major regional radar control facility.
The agency issued an alert stating that a traffic management program delaying arriving flights could affect departure schedules. Passengers were advised to check with their airlines for updates.
The disruptions stem from staffing issues at the Southern California Terminal Radar Approach Control (SCT), which manages air traffic for a vast airspace covering most of Southern California. This area extends from north of Burbank to the U.S.-Mexico border and from San Bernardino west to Santa Catalina Island, making it one of the nation's busiest airspaces.
It was not immediately clear how many flights were impacted by the FAA's decision at the bustling Southern California hub.
