The Great American State Fair, a central event for the nation's 250th birthday celebrations spearheaded by Donald Trump, experienced a temporary closure on July 3 due to extreme heat.

Independence Day weekend festivities in Washington, D.C., have been significantly impacted by temperatures soaring close to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The fair, situated on the National Mall, an area with limited shade, announced its closure from approximately 1:00 p.m. ET until 5:00 p.m. ET.

"Due to the heat, and in coordination with public safety officials, the Great American State Fair will be temporarily closed until 5:00 p.m. today," stated Freedom 250, the event's organizer. "The safety and well-being of our guests, volunteers, performers, vendors, and staff is our highest priority. Conditions are expected to improve later this afternoon, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back at 5:00 p.m. as preparations continue for this evening’s festivities."

Signs at the fair indicated that the event was postponed, and event workers were observed directing attendees to leave the premises. Emergency service personnel were also present, providing aid to individuals exhibiting signs of heat-related distress. IMAGE2

Amidst the sweltering conditions, families sought refuge in the minimal shade provided by kiosks along the National Mall. Some attendees were seen using bottled water to cool down. IMAGE3

Earlier in the day, U.S. military jets and bombers performed flyovers, providing entertainment before the fair's suspension. IMAGE6

Notable attendees included Donald Trump Jr. and his wife Bettina Trump, as well as Tiffany Trump and her husband Michael Boulos. IMAGE4

The intense heat and humidity present challenges for those outdoors. Forecasts for Friday predicted highs up to 102 degrees Fahrenheit, with some projections reaching 103 degrees. Thursday set a record for heat in the district, reaching 102 degrees, marking the hottest July 2 since 1898.

Temperatures are expected to remain high throughout the weekend, potentially affecting the schedule for Donald Trump's planned Independence Day speech on Saturday evening. Although the address is set for 9:45 p.m. ET, after sunset, temperatures are still anticipated to be in the 90s, which could cause discomfort for attendees.
